This week has been fairly interesting in terms of work, personal growth and overall health improvements. Few key incidents have course-corrected major portions of my life. It would not be an understatement to say that last week was anything but eventful and things were getting derailed.
So, let me list out the events and how they contributed to fixes
-
Went to watch Christopher Nolan’s - The Odessey this week after work hours with a bunch of colleagues. A pretty interesting movie although not one of Nolan’s best works. The movie took the entire first half to set the tone but the ending made it worth it. Although I still don’t feel that a runtime of close to 3 hours is justified and the plot was weak, but the visuals, the cinematography and the sound design wrapped it up pretty well.

Earlier the week, I cruised through 3 seasons of Ted Lasso on Amazon Prime. I can see why the series appeals to the larger audience. It had its ups and downs. The humanizing part of Ted where he suffers through breakdowns, eventually accepts vulnerability and had a positive attitude all form a pretty cocktail. Although there are instances where the character goes from optimistic to borderline panglossian which becomes irritating but its worth bearing through for the themes tackled within the show.

Work was a bit more interesting this week too. I have been added to a team which handles critical entry flow into HDFC as well as some backoffice operations. Going forward I would be working at both MCP layer as well as with this team. Finally got access to Jira and Confluence (sigh of relief!). GitHub access is still hanging in the balance but I have acquired the codebases and documentation so I can spend the weekend reading through the flows and familiarizing myself. I have also picked up a very interesting way of using
interfacesin Go and figured out how code generation works under the hood in tools likesqlcas it became a part of my job. -
Beginning of the week, I wrapped up reading Project Hail Mary (the book) and it sort of reignited my interest in math and science. I was looking through some of the codebases of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab.

Now, as luck would have it, I decided to speak to Revanth later in the week after a long hiatus and he dumped a ton of stuff on my head. Combinatorial problems, optimization problems via linear programming and what not! He’s on a roll. Honestly, very very motivating for me to pick up the pace and get my shit together too.

My diet has improved. Much less food from outside. Although a slight obsession with avocado milkshakes and mango milkshakes has been creeping up. I need to nip it otherwise it would bloat into full-blown diabetes. My exercise equipment has arrived which means I can start working out the way I want to from this week onwards. This is a good sign. It is also a signal to finally fix my sleep schedule which is already a work in progress.

Finally, I have started sketching again. It seems like I am doing better with the pens that with shading pencils although a lot of practice would still have to be done with pencils. I would like to finally get a grip on human figures, fabrics, animals and different objects.
That’s the week in a nutshell. Looking forward to a promising week ahead.
