So, I am getting a headstart on this weeknotes right from Sunday because I am making some interesting progress here. Usually I write these towards the end of the week but with all the interesting moves, I don’t wanna miss out on the journalling part.
Interesting note - last week I learned that Visruth and Dharshan
frequently read my weeknotes and posts. This came as a fair bit of surprise
but also motivation to start clearing through my backlog of things that I wanna
put out there. It’s really been a while since I have written a blog or shared
some posts so this is the week to look forward to it.
A couple of interesting / exciting incidents:
- Arpit Bhayani is on a roll of posting videos and engineering breakdowns
- Sriniously is posting way too many backend videos along with MacOS architectures
I think that in the AI-first world where code writing got super cheap and tutorials are slowly fading away, this new genre of sharing senior engineer knowledge is becoming increasingly popular. My Twitter/X is blowing up with good content as well, including but not limited to the Navier-Stokes drama at OpenAI.
Currently, I am wrapping up an authentication system for an undisclosed project
that has been long due. This would open-up out entire feature list and would
allow others to start contributing to the codebase as well. I got Codex to
build me a few prototypes at this point (within 2-3 hours):
- Orval - Go backend + openapi.yaml + auto-generated TanStackQuery & axios client
- Dynamic Color Avatar Rings
- Reactive Worker Pool
Ashwin and I still haven’t gotten on a call with Ritwik sir for the infra discussion. This is getting delayed and I am not enjoying it one bit because there are other things tied-up / dependent on it. Let’s see if I can get the needle to move on this.
Uff, being busy is nice. This was missing from my life.
I am getting through the Database Internals playlist fairly well. It’s half done and I am liking the progress although I am told that the next half is fairly heavy hitting. I wanna try out a couple of prototypes to solidify everything I am learning. From building small storage engines to implementing Gossip Protocols. It’s all there in the backlog.
Sidenote: Kiran’s stashed is really coming along well and I eagerly waiting for the procedural SVG generation and an improvement on the search and filter features!
I think this might be my longest weeknote because of how much is happening, but I am enjoying every bit of it.
